Our Success Stories

"I have never imagined myself working in the global headquarter of a MNC even though it has always been my dream. Pursuing The Nanyang MBA has made this dream come true.

Singapore has a good representation of people from Asia, Europe and America. It is a unique place as a result of this interesting mix of Asian and western cultures. Thanks to The Nanyang MBA, I made many good friends from different countries and backgrounds during my study. This has helped me to understand and appreciate the different cultures and values.

The programme is very well organized, both in term of curriculum and social activities. It has brought me to a higher level, enabling me to think more strategically and to look at the big picture when making decisions. I believe The Nanyang MBA is one of the reasons why I landed my current job.

With the rise of Asia, especially China, we have more and more opportunities to work abroad. Given the right choice of programme, I was able to capitalize on these opportunities. "

"I chose to do MBA in Singapore because Singapore is the Asia Pacific regional hub and business centre for most MNCs. Besides, Asia is one of the fastest growing regions and provides many exciting career opportunities.

Through NBS career service, I came across the investment analyst opportunity with one of the world-class investment banking firm. It was a pleasant surprise that I was given the opportunity to join the firm given my first degree was in engineering and my past experience was in marketing.

When I look back, I am glad that I made the right decision to study NBS MBA. Without NBS MBA, the dream for a new, exciting career in finance industry would not come true."

"The MBA experience at NBS was enjoyable and fulfilling. It was a great opportunity to meet and interact with participants from over sixteen countries. Having chosen a general MBA, I had the flexibility to choose courses that interested me which made the overall experience even more enjoyable.

With the assistance of the NBS Career Services, I had the opportunity to meet with Cisco Systems where I eventually landed my internship. Being part of the regional Sales Operations and Strategy team at Cisco was a great learning experience which complemented the MBA programme very well. As we were approaching the end of the programme, we were looking forward to permanent job offers. I received offers from Satyam Computer Services-MTI Alliance for its Asian Business fellowship programme and Colgate-Palmolive for their Management Feeder Programme. I eventually chose Colgate-Palmolive. I am thankful to NBS Career Services for having established the first point of contact with Cisco Systems for my internship as well as Colgate-Palmolive for my current employment."

"I am a recent graduate from the Nanyang MBA, specializing in Accountancy. My experience at Nanyang Business School is not only a challenging one but also valuable as the programme is designed to be very compact and demanding. Participants need to run through a series of case studies, assignments and presentations. Furthermore, my peers who are from different disciplines and professional backgrounds were very competitive. I learnt a lot from them as well as from my professors who are very knowledgeable in their respective fields.

Regarding my job search, I realized the importance of networking in the programme. Our professors are a very good source of reference and so are the part-time participants. I started my job application in early July and obtained my first interview within 1 day of mailing the application. By the time I finished my course work in mid October, I already received job offers from PwC, BDO, LTC and some other CPA firms in Singapore. Thanks to one of our part-time participants, I was also given the opportunity to work on an internal audit project during my recess just before I started work in PwC.

I believe that all these opportunities are made possible because I joined the Nanyang MBA."

"After four years in engineering, I found myself at a crossroad. Should I continue my career in engineering or make a career transition? I decided to upgrade my skills and chose to pursue the Nanyang MBA as it encompasses a specialization major and a business study mission. I also felt that an MBA would enhance my chances for a career transition.

I found the admissions personnel and professors to be very helpful. During the programme, there were opportunities to network with participants from diverse background. The case discussions we had in class were enriching. I approached the Career Services Office and discussed my intention of a career transition when I was in my final year. The Office offers services like resume review and advice on career planning. It was through it that I found my current job. The Nanyang MBA certainly has a strong industry network and this is one of the key factors to be considered when one decides on a particular MBA programme.

Looking back, I have no regrets embarking on the MBA journey at NBS. The enriching experience, valuable network, excellent faculty members and career services made my journey an unforgettable one. It was a beginning with an end in mind, to acquire knowledge and to make a career transition."

"I am grateful to NBS Career Services for the active support and guidance provided during my job search.  It has given me the courage to persist despite several initial setbacks.  Apart from conducting various career seminars to improve and sharpen our interviewing skills, I was also given customized suggestions on how to improve my cover letter and resume.  The result obtained after incorporating these suggestions into my job applications was amazing!  The percentage of applications resulting in interviews increased from about 5% to 30%.  I was finally offered the position of Market Data Analyst with Reuters.  I believe this success is not entirely my own effort.  Rather, it is attributable to the rigorous MBA programme which equipped me with the business knowledge and skills, and the excellent career services provided by NBS Career Services.  I am sure all these will benefit me in my professional career.

I hope every one of you would seriously seek and follow NBS Career Services’ professional guidance.  I believe you will not be disappointed."

"I am really thankful to NBS Career Service for the active support provided during all stages of my job search.  While I was still pursuing my MBA degree, the Career Service placed me in different internships which enhanced my MBA learning in the real-world. When I started looking for full-time jobs in Singapore, it again provided me with full support.  What impressed me most was the dedication with which I was served.  It did not stop at arranging for the interviews but went on to provide me with case-specific tips on how to excel in these interviews.  It also liaised with the recruiting company to keep me updated on my application status.  The rapport that the Career Serivce has established with major multinationals in Singapore has definitely added shine to a Nanyang MBA’s career prospects."

"I received a call from KPMG Singapore, who obtained my contact from the Resume Book distributed by our Career Services, and was offered a Senior Analyst position in August. Ernst & Young Singapore also contacted me, inviting me to apply for positions within the company. But, my real surprise came when I received a long distant call from Siemens, Beijing, asking me if I am interested to join their HQ as a Senior Internal Auditor in Beijing. The company even offered to pay for my air ticket to Beijing to meet with their Director.

I've since accepted my previous company, PwC Beijing's offer to rejoin as Audit Manager, an offer which is considered unusual as the minimum requirement for a manager is 5 years' experience and I have only 4. I believe this is due partly to the value of the MBA programme and my past work performance. I feel that pursuing my MBA at Nanyang Business School, NTU was one of my wisest decisions and I want to thank our Career Services for sending us all the job announcements and arranging the interviews. Indeed, the interviews I have attended at DBS, GM, etc., have provided me with valuable experiences and insights, and have helped me to be successful in my interviews with KPMG."

Our career services was very helpful during my job search process and I had several interviews through them, resulting in a job offer in Shanghai, China. Knowing that I was pursuing my MBA at the Nanyang Business School, my interviewers have a positive impression of me. "I was looking to change careers from Consulting to Finance through my MBA. My plan was to gain as much financial knowledge as possible and to build up credentials to compete with others in the market. The flexibility of the Nanyang MBA allowed me to do so. In addition, I enrolled for CFA level 1 in December 2003 and passed with top grade. By the end of two trimesters I had completed most of my finance courses and was well positioned to do an internship in the banking industry. I was fortunate to obtain a 3-month internship with Citigroup Private Bank in February 2004. It was subsequently extended by another 4 months due to my excellent work performance. This internship was key in getting me a number of job offers toward the end of my MBA.

I started my job search early, in July, and was already receiving interview calls in August. By mid August I was interviewing with 4 companies of which two (DBS and Standard Chartered) resulted in job offers. Citibank also offered me a job. However, the offer came after I have accepted Standard Chartered’s. Now I am working as a Strategy Manager for unsecured products at Standard Chartered consumer bank. I would attribute my success to two key factors - starting early and remaining focused."

"I was unfamiliar with Singapore's employment market. Hence, the Career Resource Centre was my first stop when I began my job search. Through the Centre, I obtained the required information and was also advised on how to position myself in a market that is totally new to me. Apart from being a good information source, the Centre also secured my first job interview. The staff were very responsive to my enquiries during the various stages of my job search. Their specialised expertise has aided me in my job search resulting in a job offer from a local bank."

"I was contacted by KPMG through our Resume Book and was offered the position of Auditor subsequently. The Career Service compiles the resumes of graduating MBAs and sends them to many MNCs every year as part of its effort to assist us in our job search. Apart from me, a few of my coursemates has also obtained job offers through the Resume Book. Its effectiveness is proven and I hope everyone of you will make good use of the Resume book. I am thankful to our Career Service for the various services it provides to us."
