Restructuring of the Nanyang Business School Advisory Board

Nanyang Business School to chart new strategic directions with
SPRING Chairman Philip Yeo at the helm

New Business School Advisory Board structure features six new renowned international business leaders to inject fresh vision, leadership and expertise

Singapore, 10 July 2008 – Nanyang Business School is set to scale new heights as it unveils a new Advisory Board structure comprising a Board of Advisors, a Graduate Board and an Undergraduate Board. At the helm of the School’s Board of Advisors is Mr Philip Yeo, Chairman, SPRING Singapore and Special Advisor for Economic Development in the Prime Minister's Office. Mr Choo Chiau Beng, 60, who stepped down from the chairmanship of the International Advisory Board at the end of his term, will continue to be a member of the NBS Advisory Board.

“I am deeply honoured to chair the Nanyang Business School's Board of Advisors," says Mr Yeo. “NBS is a strong asset to Singapore and to the business community around the globe. This is an exciting time in the life of the School under its new Dean. I look forward to working with all segments of the NBS community to create new synergies between enterprise, management and technology and to achieve the School's vision of becoming one of the world’s top 25 business schools by 2013.”

Some of the highlights in NBS’ future plans will include providing management training for SME leaders and leaders with non-management background, such as life sciences, with the aim to develop well-rounded talented global leaders.

The new Graduate Board’s Chairman is Mr Seck Wai Kwong, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Singapore Exchange Limited and the new Undergraduate Board’s Chairman is Mr Michael Lim Choo San, Chairman of Land Transport Authority. Under the old NBS board structure, Mr Seck Wai Kwong had chaired the Business Degree Programmes Advisory Board, while Mr Michael Lim chaired the Accountancy Degree Programme Advisory Board. The following are the new Advisory Board Members:

  1. Mr Rakesh K. AGGARWAL, Director, Sony Entertainment Television (SET) Pte. Ltd., Singapore and Director, World Media Group Pte Ltd, Singapore

  2. Dr. CHAN Heng Chee, Singapore’s Ambassador to the United States of America

  3. Mr Akhil GUPTA, Senior Managing Director and Chairman, Blackstone India

  4. Mr Som MITTAL, President, National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), India

  5. Mr Girija PANDE, Executive Vice President and Head and Regional Director, Asia Pacific, TATA Consultancy Services and Chairman, TCS Asia Pacific Pte Ltd

The new member for the Graduate Board is Ms CHONG Siak Ching, President & CEO, Ascendas Pte Ltd.

Prof Jitendra V Singh, Dean of Nanyang Business School says, “The new advisory board chairmen and members are all well-respected men and women leaders in business. They share a deep passion for developing talented global leaders and share my enthusiasm for NBS. Their strong leadership skills, extensive global management experience, and proven track records are what we need to take the School to a new level of achievement. I anticipate a productive working relationship with them.”

The NBS Advisory Board’s primary role is to advise the Dean and the leadership at NBS on strategic issues and the review and evaluation of the School’s programmes. The Board meets twice a year and Board members will serve for renewable terms of two years.

Additional new members will be appointed to the NBS Boards in due course.
